What is JAMB CAPS and How to Create an Account
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) developed JAMB CAPS, or Central Admission Processing System, an online platform to streamline the admission process for Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The goal is to make the admissions process more efficient, transparent, and credible.
This is how JAMB CAPS works:
- Simplifies Admission Procedures: JAMB CAPS simplifies the admissions process by providing a user-friendly platform for applicants to easily accept or decline admission offers.
- Empowers Tertiary Institutions: The system brings back decision-making authority to tertiary institutions, allowing them to choose qualified candidates based on their own criteria.
- Fosters Transparency and Reduces Errors: CAPS ensures transparency in admissions proceedings by significantly reducing errors associated with manual processes, resulting in a more reliable and equitable admission process.
- Operational Mechanism: Applicants must create a profile on the JAMB website and provide their registration information. Once logged in, they can view their admission status, accept or decline offers, or wait for further consideration. After accepting an offer, the applicant’s name is immediately removed from the candidate pool, making room for another candidate.
- Admission Status and Decision Choices: The system provides various admission status options, including “Not Admitted,” “In Progress,” “Proposed,” “Recommended,” “Approved,” and “Accepted.” Applicants can make informed decisions about accepting or declining admission offers. Those who choose to decline are placed in the “marketplace,” where their information is shared with schools seeking candidates.
