WAEC Opens Portal for Withheld SSCE Results Re-check, Sets October 14 Deadline
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has advised candidates whose results were withheld during the 2024 May/June Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) to re-check their results starting from Monday, October 14, 2024. This development follows the conclusion of WAEC’s 78th Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) on October 9, 2024.
In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, @waecnigeria, the council announced the timeline for candidates to revisit their results and provided further guidance. The post read: “The 78th Meeting of the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC) ended on 9th October, 2024. The communique from the meeting will be made available soon. Candidates can re-check their results from Monday, 14th October, 2024.”
Earlier, WAEC had withheld the results of 215,267 candidates, representing 11.92% of the total 1,805,216 who sat for the May/June SSCE, citing allegations of malpractice. WAEC’s spokesperson, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, noted that the council is committed to resolving the issue and announced that an online portal has been established to assist candidates affected by the withheld results. “We have created a platform where candidates with withheld results can lodge their complaints, ensuring their cases are handled swiftly and efficiently,” Adesina stated.
She also provided reassurance that some of the withheld results would be released before the NEC meets again in October to deliberate further on unresolved cases. “We understand the anxiety candidates may be feeling, and we are doing everything possible to release results after thorough investigations. The NEC’s next meeting will address pending issues, and some results will be cleared before then,” she added.
WAEC urged all affected candidates to take advantage of the online portal and emphasized that the issue of malpractice is taken seriously, as the council strives to maintain the integrity of the examination process.
As the re-check date approaches, thousands of students await the outcome, hopeful that their results will be cleared and released soon.
