UTME 2025: JAMB Introduces Mock Trial for Underage Students.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has introduced a mock trial for underage students ahead of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The announcement was made during a presentation by JAMB registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, at a stakeholder meeting with media executives in Abuja on Tuesday, January 28. The initiative aims to prepare underage students for the actual UTME once they meet the age requirement of 16.
In 2024, the Ministry of Education set the minimum age for sitting UTME and gaining admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions at 16. Professor Oloyede revealed that the registration cost for the 2025 UTME without the mock option is N7,200, while the fee for UTME with the mock trial is N8,200.
The Direct Entry fee remains N5,700, and the Trial Testing Mock exclusively for underage candidates costs N3,500. He clarified that candidates will not incur additional service charges at any Computer-Based Test (CBT) center.

The registration process for the 2025 UTME is scheduled to commence on Friday, January 31, 2025, and will close on March 5, 2025. Professor Oloyede assured stakeholders that all critical information regarding registration would be disseminated through advertisements on various broadcast platforms soon.
Approximately 1.5 million candidates are expected to participate in the 2025 UTME, which is conducted as a computer-based test. This examination serves as a gateway for entry into Nigerian tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education.
All candidates must have obtained the West African Senior School Certificate (WASSCE) or its equivalent, the National Examination Council (NECO) certificate, before participating in the UTME.

JAMB is a key examination board in Nigeria responsible for conducting entrance exams for tertiary-level institutions. Beyond the UTME, the board also oversees similar examinations for applicants to public and private polytechnics, monotechnics, and colleges of education.
These efforts align with its mandate to streamline and standardize the admission process into higher education institutions in Nigeria.
