Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has approved the recruitment of 500 new teachers to support and enhance the state’s educational sector. This initiative was announced by Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu, the newly appointed Commissioner for Education, during his assumption of office in Benin on Wednesday.
Dr. Iyamu, who was sworn in on Monday by Governor Okpebholo after his confirmation by the state’s House of Assembly, highlighted the administration’s commitment to improving the educational system in Edo.
He emphasized that the recruitment of teachers is part of broader efforts to address staffing challenges in public schools across the state.
The commissioner explained that the recruitment would be conducted in phases to gradually fill numerous vacancies within the educational system. He assured that the recruitment process would be strictly merit-based.
“Government is committed to ensuring that all public schools in Edo are adequately staffed by qualified teachers.” Dr. Iyamu said.

“The era of having two or three teachers in a school is gone and I am calling on qualified Nigerians to apply,” Dr. Iyamu added.
Dr. Iyamu stressed that the administration aims to ensure every public school in Edo is sufficiently staffed with qualified teachers.
He noted that the days of having only two or three teachers per school are over, urging qualified Nigerians to apply for the available positions.
