NIMC Addresses JAMB Profile Code Issue for UTME Candidates Under 16.
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has advised parents and guardians of children under 16, or those turning 16 soon, who are preparing for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), to visit its offices nationwide. This move is necessary for their wards to generate the required Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) profile code.
According to NIMC, children in this age group will be unable to generate their JAMB profile code online unless they visit the nearest enrolment centre.
NIMC issued a notice urging parents and guardians of children under 16 or those just reaching the age to take their wards to the nearest enrolment centre. The commission highlighted that the JAMB profile code cannot be generated for children under this age bracket via the NIMC website.
Instead, they will need to undergo a “Migration” update at the centre to ensure the code can be generated. The NIMC emphasized that failing to do so could delay their educational progress, particularly their aspirations to take part in the UTME.
In a tweet shared on January 27, 2025, the commission clarified, “Parents whose children are under or just turned 16 should ensure they visit the nearest NIMC enrolment centre for a ‘Migration’ update to facilitate the generation of their JAMB profile codes.”
JAMB’s Recent Update for 2025 UTME Candidates
This announcement came shortly after the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) shared an important update for prospective 2025 UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates. JAMB had urged all candidates to ensure they obtain their National Identity Number (NIN) and a new phone number before starting their registration process. The board also stated that more details about the registration process would be shared soon.
In an official post made on January 15, 2025, JAMB informed candidates to prepare by securing an NIN and a phone number not previously used for registration. This preparation would allow candidates to generate their profile code before the registration begins.

Other Key Updates for 2025 UTME Candidates
As part of the lead-up to the 2025 UTME, JAMB also confirmed that “The Lekki Headmaster” by Kabir Alabi Garba would be the approved text for the Use of English examination. This announcement was made on January 14, 2025, via JAMB’s official X (formerly Twitter) page, ensuring that candidates are informed of the required reading materials.
With all these preparations in place, NIMC and JAMB are working together to ensure a smooth registration process for the 2025 UTME candidates.
