Kano University Invests in multi-million ICT Gadgets to Combat Exam Malpractice
The Saadatu Rimi University of Education in Kumbotso, Kano, has purchased multi-million naira information technology devices as part of the institution’s Information Technology Development Initiative.
While presenting the new brand of 90 cameras to the university’s Academic Union, Vice Chancellor Yahya Isa Bunkure stated that the supply of the gadgets was funded by the university’s Revitalisation Funds.
He stated that the university has equipped all of its examination centres with Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) to prevent examination malpractice and improve student performance.
He said: “We are judiciously spending the money upon what the fund was meant for, and the mission is to ensure that Saadatu Rimi University is fully connected with ICT to compete favourably with other institutions of higher learning.
“As a university now, we are upgrading almost everything to fully tally with the university system that would make us one of the best, and don’t forget that we have been operating as an institution of higher learning which has produced great leaders and teachers alike across the country.”
Shittu Sani Gargai, Chairman of the university’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), stated that the accessories procured included Smart Boards, protectors, and other computer items.
Gargai stated that the gesture would go a long way towards motivating the university and its staff to strive for academic excellence, with students and the community benefiting most significantly.
Zubaida Muhammad Musa, the Union’s Secretary, also praised the vice chancellor for spending the institution’s revitalisation funds wisely.
