Jamb/UTME Cut-off Mark 2024/2025 For All Universities, polys and colleges
For the 2024 JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the set minimum scores are 160 for federal and state universities, 120 for polytechnics, and 100 for colleges of education.
Noteworthy proposed minimum scores include University of Maiduguri (150), Usman Dan Fodio University Sokoto (140), Pan Atlantic University (210), University of Lagos (200), Lagos State University (190), Covenant University (190), and Bayero University Kano (180).
Grasping these minimum scores is essential because JAMB is central to the admission process in Nigerian higher education institutions. JAMB Registrar, Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, stresses the importance of institutions complying with these minimum scores when making admission offers, as they are a key factor in determining eligibility for various institutions and academic programs.
Due to the significant failure rate among 2024 JAMB candidates, JAMB has eliminated the general cut-off mark. This means there will not be a uniform cut-off mark this year. Instead, each school will have the power to determine its own cut-off marks.
Although this gives schools the freedom to set their own admission standards, it might not be a cause for celebration because some schools have a tendency to set high cut-off marks even when JAMB’s benchmarks are lower.
Securing admission to elite universities in Nigeria is a demanding task. Students are required to take various tests or exams, with the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) serving as the main entry point. UTME, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is a pivotal computer-based test where reaching the specified cut-off marks is vital.
To qualify for higher education institutions, students need to take and pass UTME along with either WAEC or NECO. The challenge for students isn’t just taking the exam but also achieving the required cut-off scores. Lately, JAMB set minimum cut-off marks, allowing universities to establish their own specific thresholds.
The predetermined cut-off marks are as follows:
- Federal and State Universities: 160
- Private Universities: 140
- Federal and State Polytechnics: 120
- Private Polytechnics: 110
- Colleges of Education: 100
It’s crucial to understand that institutions have the freedom to adjust cut-off scores based on their own criteria. Since schools are responsible for determining these scores, applicants should keep themselves updated about the post-UTME cut-off marks set by their preferred institutions.
