JAMB 2024/2025 – University of Benin cut off mark

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) is a Nigerian public research university based in Benin City, Edo State. The institution was established in 1970 and is one of those owned and operated by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

UNIBEN, like other universities, has an admission criterion that takes into account a variety of factors. One of these is the University of Benin cut off mark, which determines who is admitted to the institution.

The cut-off mark is primarily based on students’ performance in specific exams. Those who exceed the cut-off mark are typically given priority over those who meet the exact mark.

The University of Benin cut off mark for 2024/2025

According to the admission policy, prospective students must meet three cut-off marks to be admitted to UNIBEN.

These include the post-UTME eligibility score, the JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board) cut off mark, and the UNIBEN departmental cut off mark.

UNIBEN JAMB cut off mark

This is the minimum JAMB score required for any candidate seeking admission to UNIBEN. The university accepts candidates with JAMB UTME scores of 200 or higher.

UNIBEN post-UTME eligibility

Post-UTME stands for Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. It is a written exam taken by JAMB applicants prior to university admission but following the UTME.

The University of Benin determines the post-UTME cut-off mark based on candidates’ UTME results. To be eligible to take the University of Benin prequalification examination, candidates must have scored at least 200 points in the UTME.

Following the PUTME, candidates with a minimum score of 50% may be considered for admission, subject to the specific cut-off marks set by each department within the university.

Here are some additional post-UTME eligibility requirements:

  • One must have chosen UNIBEN as their first-choice university when registering for the UTME.
  • One must have a minimum of 5 ‘O’ level credit passes at NECO, SSCE, WASCE, or GCE.
  • One must be at least 16 years old.

University of Benin departmental cut off mark

The university has yet to release the departmental cut-off mark for the 2024/2025 admissions period. This is the second minimum score that determines a student’s admission to UNIBEN.

A student’s grade is entirely determined by the department and course he or she chooses. The departmental cut-off mark is not fixed, but is influenced by a variety of factors.

The candidates’ general performance

The overall performance of candidates aspiring to pursue a specific course in a given year has a significant impact on determining the departmental cutoff. When the performance is good, the cut off point is high. Two figures are used to calculate the final mark.

  • NABTEB/NECO/WAEC grade points from the subjects relevant to the course.
  • An average of the post-UTME score and the JAMB score

Admission quota

Every department at UNIBEN has an admission quota set by the NUC (Nigerian University Commission). For example, if the Banking and Finance department has an admission quota of 50 students, no additional students will be admitted, regardless of their score.

In such cases, the department will admit students based on merit, beginning with the best candidate and continuing until the quota is exhausted.

Catchment area

Like every other federal university in Nigeria, UNIBEN prefers candidates from the institution’s catchment area. UNIBEN currently has five states listed as its catchment area. This means that students from these states will be given preference over those from other states.

The five states are Edo, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, and Rivers.

What is University of Benin cut off mark for JAMB postgraduate?

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) does not provide a general JAMB cut-off mark for postgraduate programmes. Unlike undergraduate programmes, UNIBEN admits postgraduate students based on individual programme requirements and merit.

This means that each programme has a unique cut-off mark for both JAMB and the university’s postgraduate entrance exam. To be admitted to a postgraduate programme, one must meet the following requirements:

  • Obtained at least five (5) ordinary-level credits in WASC, NECO, GCE or their equivalent.
  • Must be holders of undergraduate or postgraduate degrees in a discipline relevant to the programme to which they wish to apply.
  • Only applicants with the NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate will be allowed to be cleared into the university’s postgraduate programmes.
  • An entrance examination may or may not be required, depending on the course of study

What is the University of Benin cut off mark for medicine and surgery?

According to the admission policy, the University of Benin’s JAMB cut-off mark for medicine is 200. This is the general cut-off mark. The College of Medical Sciences at UNIBEN determines its departmental mark, which may be higher.

What is UNIBEN cut off mark for engineering?

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has set a general cut-off mark of 200 for all courses. However, for highly competitive programmes like engineering, the specific cut-off mark is usually higher.

As a result, the UNIBEN cutoff mark for the computer engineering course is expected to be higher than 200. For more information on the departmental cut-off marks for various engineering courses, please contact the Faculty of Engineering directly for clarification.
