Guide on how to change JAMB details like name, DOB, email, and more
Ensuring that your personal information on your Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) profile is correct is critical for a successful registration process. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps required to change or update your name, number, email, and date of birth (DOB) for JAMB in 2024.
1. Correcting JAMB name details
Minor spelling corrections to your name, such as changing “Mari” to “Mary” or “Danel” to “Daniel,” are simple to make. This is a simple process for JAMB registration.
To get it done, simply submit a ticket through the JAMB support centre online or go to an accredited JAMB registration CBT centre.
Please keep in mind that a name cannot be completely changed or significantly altered. For example, you cannot switch from Daniel to Damola or Magdalene to Mary. You also cannot add or delete a name with which you have already registered for JAMB.
So you cannot go from Tunde Olubori John to Tunde Olubori. Similarly, you cannot move from John Okafor to John Nnamdi Okafor.
2. Change of name procedure for 2022 JAMB candidates and below
If you wrote JAMB after 2022 and need to change your name, you must fill out an indemnity form, submit it to the institution, and return it to JAMB.
It’s an important step to ensure that the name change is properly reflected in the JAMB records.
3. Important note on name changes
Even if you obtain a court affidavit and change your name with NIMC after submitting JAMB, you must understand that JAMB will not automatically update your name. Your name change may be valid, but JAMB’s records will remain unchanged.
4. Changing date of birth
Changing one’s birth date is also generally not permitted. However, in clearly incorrect cases, it is permitted, and a change of date of birth requires a payment of 15,000 Naira at an accredited JAMB CBT registration centre.
It is important to note that this correction must be completed on NIMC before JAMB integration is possible.
5. Bio details and NIMC
Before registering for JAMB 2024, it is strongly advised to update any biographical information with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
You must ensure that your O’level or A’level names match your NIN details before registering for JAMB.
This ensures that your information is consistent across all platforms and reduces the possibility of errors during the registration process.
6. Updating emails and phone numbers
Once used, JAMB emails and phone numbers cannot be changed. However, if an error has been made, you can submit a ticket to have the profile with incorrect information removed. This allows you to start over with correct information.
Proactive management of your personal information is essential for a smooth JAMB registration process. Follow the steps outlined to ensure that your name, date of birth, and contact information are correct for JAMB 2024.
Also, always provide accurate and complete information when registering. It saves you the time and effort of integrating elsewhere, as well as the potential problems caused by discrepancies.
