Federal University Dutse (FUD) Abolishes Instalment Payment of School Fees.
Federal University Dutse (FUD) has announced a significant change in its payment structure by discontinuing instalment payments for registration fees. This decision coincides with the introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund), aimed at easing the financial burden on students. Below are the details of the decision and its implications.
End of Instalment Payment Structure
The Governing Council of FUD decided to abolish the instalment payment option during its 4th Governing Council’s 3rd Regular Meeting. Previously, students were allowed to pay their registration fees in two instalments: 60% initially and 40% later.
The Council explained that this decision aligns with the introduction of NELFund, which provides financial assistance to students. The Registrar, Alhaji Abubakar Mijinyawa, stated that the change was necessary due to technical challenges posed by the 60/40 payment structure on the University’s portal.
Financial Support Measures
To ensure no student faces undue financial hardship, the University emphasized that the Benevolent Fund remains available to assist those in need. This initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to supporting students despite the payment structure change.
Refunds for Eligible Students
A total of 1,503 students have already received refunds for registration fees. These students had paid their fees before their NELFund loans were processed. According to the Bursar, Malam Hassan Balarabe, a total of 1,920 students successfully applied for NELFund loans. He confirmed that all refunds were promptly processed after the University received disbursements from the loan fund.
Below is a summary of the refund details:
Details | Count |
---|---|
Students refunded | 1,503 |
Successful NELFund applicants | 1,920 |
Reasons Behind the Decision
The decision to end the instalment payment option was influenced by technical challenges and financial reforms introduced by NELFund. Officials noted that maintaining the old system would have continued to disrupt the University’s financial operations.
A representative commented that the change aims to “streamline processes and reduce stress for both students and their parents.”
