Expert Advises UTME Candidates How They Can Pass Examination
Candidates preparing for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) 2024 have received advice on how to enhance their chances of success in the upcoming assessment.
The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) initiated this year’s UTME on April 19, with the examination scheduled to conclude on April 29.
Osunwoye Samuel, a seasoned tutor specializing in guiding JAMB/UTME candidates, emphasized the importance of both computer literacy and strategic thinking for participants in the exam.
In an interview with Legit.ng, Samuel highlighted the need for students to study diligently and efficiently to identify correct answers within a limited timeframe.
“Students must study hard and smart to recognize correct answers in the shortest time frame possible. That is, Students shouldn’t spend time unnecessarily on questions that do not deserve it because questions may carry equal marks but do not carry equal steps in solving them,” Samuel advised.
He also underscored the significance of basic computer proficiency, noting instances where lack of familiarity with computer operations has led to failures among UTME candidates.
“Students must have basic knowledge of the operation of a Computer; history has revealed how some Computer-illiterate UTME Students fail their exams because of inexperience or phobia of the operation of a Computer,” Samuel explained.
To address this issue, Samuel recommended the utilization of JAMB CBT Practice Offline-APP or similar software available on platforms like Play Store or Google Store. Alternatively, students without access to personal computers can opt for online CBT practice platforms.
“If a Student comes across a difficult question(s), I will advise that they skip it by clicking on ‘NEXT’ on their screen. This will enable the Student to attempt all questions and also save time. Spending too much time on a question that you find difficult and which you might eventually get wrong will only end up wasting the student’s time and, at the same time, depriving the student of other ‘cheap or bonus’ questions at the front,” Samuel cautioned.
