Education Minister Inaugurates NSQF Centre in Yola
The Minister of Education, Professor Mamman Tahir, has expressed his appreciation for the advanced facilities offered by Adamawa State Polytechnic in order to facilitate the establishment of the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) facility in Yola.
The Minister, represented by Mr. Jacob Ango Umaru, emphasised the importance of the enrollees maximising the utilisation of the equipment in their various professions.
The Minister, represented by Mr. Jacob Ango Umaru, encouraged the students to effectively utilise the equipment in their specific fields and asked the Polytechnic to collaborate with the state government in order to obtain the equipment.
On Thursday, the Minister made a statement during the initial launch of the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) in Yola.
The State Polytechnic Yola organised an inaugural ceremony in accordance with the directive of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) to promote skill acquisition among young individuals. The ceremony involved the training of one hundred and eighty students in various skills.
The training programme encompasses a range of skills, such as wheel alignment and balancing, refrigeration and air conditioning, welding and fabrication, aluminium fabrication, and carpentry.
Other occupations include plumbing, bricklaying and concreting, digital photography and video editing, electrical installation, grooming services for both men and women, computer laboratory work, fashion design, and vehicle maintenance, among others.
Mr. Abdulrahaman Alpha, the North East Zonal Director of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), praised the Polytechnic and encouraged other institutions in the country to do the same.
Professor Mohammed Dahiru Toungo, the Rector of Adamawa State Polytechnic, SPY, credited Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s deliberate leadership for the project’s success. He stated that the program’s objective is to divert young individuals from homelessness and include them in meaningful activities by providing them with skill development opportunities.
The Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework is a comprehensive framework designed to facilitate the development, categorization, and acknowledgment of the skills, knowledge, comprehension, and abilities necessary for individuals, regardless of the location or method of training or skill acquisition.
It provides a concise declaration of the knowledge or skills that the learner must possess, regardless of whether the learning occurred in a classroom, on the job, or in a less formal setting.

Engineer Ahmed Jumba, the guest speaker, provided an overview of the National Skill Qualification Framework during his presentation. He noted that the framework demonstrates the comparability of various certifications and outlines the process for advancing from one level to another.
He asserted that the primary objective of NSQF is to foster Lifelong Learning by promoting comprehension through occupational learning pathways and certifications, as well as their interconnections.
While outlining the objectives of the course, he emphasised that it will provide the trainee with more streamlined and transparent pathways for advancement, thereby enhancing the quality, comparability of careers, and mobility within the informal sector.
