Bauchi govt steps up efforts in revamping zonal education offices
Under the direction of its Commissioner, Dr. Jamila Dahiru, the Bauchi State Ministry of Education has taken a courageous step toward revitalizing zonal education offices and ensuring a high standard of education across the state.
Staff members from all three of the zonal education offices are participating in a series of orientation programs aimed at revitalizing the zonal education staff. By clearly outlining individual duties and responsibilities, the programs aim to reignite passion and commitment within the zonal offices during the course of the program.
Understanding essential tasks includes Quality Assurance Officers (QAO), who are the foundation of the program. These officers are responsible for inspecting schools to evaluate the quality of education provided by the schools. Throughout the school year, their reviews will cover all twenty local governments in a staggered manner.
These personnel visit assigned schools six times every term, twice a month, with each inspector monitoring three schools and giving thorough reports to the Area Education Officer (AEO). Inspectors are the lifeblood of daily inspections, regularly visiting assigned schools six times per term.
Additionally, Area Education Officers (AEO) are in charge of directly supervising inspectors, gathering reports, and ensuring their transmission to the zonal quality assurance officer and the official overseeing the Education Management Information System (EMIS). For the purpose of harmonizing the findings and presenting them to the Ministry, collaboration between these parties is absolutely necessary.
The following are the different kinds of inspections: The Ministry of Education and zonal offices lead the Resumption Inspection, conducting an evaluation to determine the readiness of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), instructors, staff, and students for the upcoming academic term.
A continuous quality assurance inspection is scheduled for the fifth week of the term. The purpose of this inspection is to assess the overall quality of education and the progress that students are making inside schools.
Additionally, a follow-up inspection confirms that schools have implemented the remedial actions identified during previous inspections. The last kind of inspection is called a daily inspection, and it is used to ensure that inspectors make regular visits to monitor activities related to teaching and learning.
Embracing technology for enhanced monitoring is another initiative that the Ministry is supporting. This initiative represents a significant step forward since it leads to the introduction of digital e-inspections.
The Ministry will provide inspectors with tablets or Android phones so they can record their assessments. The Quality Assurance Department’s goal is to ensure that inspectors visit one-third of the schools across all local governments throughout each term.
Geotagging will be applied to these visits, which will enable the commissioner and all education managers from the ministry and parastatals to monitor progress in real time using a dashboard that has been specifically allocated for this purpose.
The Ministry of Education views monitoring and supervision as crucial elements in ensuring students receive a quality education, as stated in the “Prioritizing Education Quality” document. Those who are discovered to be disobeying these key objectives will be subject to disciplinary action.
Dr. Dahiru has demonstrated his dedication to achieving excellence in the Bauchi State educational system by implementing an all-encompassing initiative. Through the empowerment of zonal offices, the implementation of clear rules, and the use of technology, the Ministry is laying the groundwork for a potentially more promising future for students all around the state.
