5,826 Students Graduate from FUT Minna as 119 Earn First-Class Degrees.
At least 119 students from the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), Niger State, achieved first-class degrees in the 2023-2024 academic session. These exceptional graduates stood out among the 5,826 students who completed their programs at the institution.
During a pre-convocation media briefing held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the university’s permanent site in Gidan Kwanu, Minna, Vice-Chancellor Professor Faruk Kuta provided insights into the graduating class.
He reported that the total number of graduates included 4,955 undergraduates, 632 Master’s degree recipients, 105 post-graduate diploma holders, and 124 individuals awarded PhDs.
Highlighting the undergraduate degree classifications, Kuta outlined that 1,431 students graduated with second-class upper division, 2,341 with second-class lower division, 972 with third-class, and 92 with pass degrees.
He emphasized that as part of the university’s tradition, graduates would receive original certificates and student transcripts immediately after the ceremony.
Honorary Doctorates and Exhibitions
The Vice-Chancellor revealed that distinguished Nigerians would also be conferred with honorary doctorate degrees during the convocation ceremony. Additionally, a scientific research exhibition would be held to mark the event.
Scheduled for Thursday, January 30, at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square on the main campus, the exhibition aims to showcase the institution’s research prowess.
As part of the convocation activities, FUT Minna plans to inaugurate several completed projects. These include a central workshop and foundry complex, an architectural studio, and a newly constructed hostel, all funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
Established on February 1, 1983, FUT Minna is a federal government-owned institution specializing in science, engineering, and technology. Its creation was driven by the nation’s goal of achieving self-reliance in technological development.

Elsewhere, the University of Uyo (UniUyo) in Akwa Ibom State held its combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies on November 9, 2024. During the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo announced that 174 students graduated with first-class honours, and three notable Nigerians were awarded honorary degrees.
Similarly, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, hosted its 55th convocation ceremony between January 10 and January 17, 2025. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Folasade Ogunsola disclosed that two students achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0. The institution celebrated the graduation of 16,409 students across various disciplines.
